Touch-screen information kiosks installed

CRMC has recently installed three touch-screen, information kiosks: one in the main lobby at East and West; and one in the first floor lobby of the parking garage.

The kiosks are intended to help our patients and visitors locate hospital services, find patients, learn about upcoming hospital events and provide general hospital information, such as visiting hours.

While the friendly faces of our volunteers and staff are still the best and most important visitor assistance we can provide, volunteers and staff cannot be everywhere 24 hours a day. The information kiosks help fill in when and where volunteers and staff are not available.

In order to protect our patients’ privacy, access to patient information is carefully limited. The visitor must first correctly enter an actual patient name, then will be told only the unit where that patient is located and instructed to ask at the nurses’ station for the actual room number.

The system includes maps that provide directions to departments and services in the hospital, to physicians’ offices and other locations at CRMC East, West and Health & Fitness. People may obtain a copy of a map. By touching the “PRINT” icon, a map is printed and dropped from a slot in the front of the kiosk.

The kiosks are simple to use: Touch the large icons displayed on the screen, and follow the step-by-step process to obtain information.
