Cheyenne Regional Receives $1.5 Million Grant for Mental Health ServicesDuring the Cheyenne Regional Volunteers’ annual Pink Geranium service awards luncheon on May 3, approximately 30 volunteers will be honored for giving more than 50,000 hours of service to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center during their lifetimes. Cheyenne Regional’s Behavioral Health Services (BHS) and partners Peak Wellness and Carbon County Counseling Center (CCCC) have received a $2.7 million grant from the Wyoming Department of Health, Division of Mental Health, for a Comprehensive Care Regionalization Pilot Project to serve southeastern Wyoming. Cheyenne Regional received $1.4 million for acute inpatient care and $110,000 for a partial hospitalization program. The grant is for 18 months. “This is the largest grant award in Cheyenne Regional’s history. We are grateful to the Wyoming Department of Health for allowing us to serve as the lead in this vital program to help residents of southeastern Wyoming receive mental health services,” said Jiri Danczik, MD, Cheyenne Regional’s BHS Medical Director. Dr. Danczik is the pilot project’s director. Peak Wellness received $780,000 for crisis stabilization and social detoxification services. CCCC received $461,351 for crisis stabilization services. David Birney, Ph.D., Executive Director at Peak Wellness, and Ron Blake, Executive Director of CCCC, were part of the team including Dr. Danczik and other Cheyenne Regional staff who worked to secure the grant. “Wyoming typically has one of the highest suicide rates per capita in the nation. There is great need to provide Wyoming residents with additional services. One of our goals with this grant is to work with our partners to assist as many southeastern Wyoming residents in need as possible. We are also trying to provide services in the least restrictive setting possible, given a patient’s clinical condition, and to try to keep patients near their homes and families,” said Dr. Danczik. Another project focus is to collect data about mental healthcare in southeastern Wyoming. “Being a county hospital with a regional outreach, we feel it is our responsibility and mission to work on projects such as this one—in which we partner with other healthcare agencies to broaden the scope and depth of services to the people of our region,” said Dr. Danczik. Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is a 218-bed premier regional healthcare system that prides itself on delivering the highest standard of quality care to meet the region’s growing healthcare needs. The hospital’s physicians and employees, state-of-the-art facilities and advanced technologies ensure patients will receive exceptional care close to home. |
