Friday, January 5, 2006 Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Promotes Organ, Tissue Donation CHEYENNE – Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is encouraging community members to become organ and tissue donors as part of a nationwide campaign called 12 Weeks of Giving, which runs through Monday, February 12. “Cheyenne Regional is partnering with Donor Alliance, our regional nonprofit organ procurement agency, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to save and enhance the lives of people throughout Wyoming and Colorado who need organ and tissue donation and transplantation,” said Donia Andersen, Cheyenne Regional’s Patient Safety Officer. Andersen is coordinating the campaign through the hospital with Rev. T. Patrick Bradley, Cheyenne Regional’s Pastoral Care Director. Currently more than 1,600 Wyoming and Colorado residents are on the waiting list for a life-saving transplant, according to Donor Alliance. Nationwide, 19 people die each day due to a lack of available organs. “A single organ and tissue donor can save the lives of up to eight people and enhance the lives of up to 100 people,” said Andersen. “Tissue is needed to replace bone, tendons and ligaments lost to severe trauma, cancer and other diseases,” said Andersen. “Corneas restore sight, heart valves repair cardiac defects and damage and skin grafts help burn patients heal.” Regionally, the goal of the campaign is to have more than 100,000 Wyoming and Colorado residents sign up on the donor registry by mid-February. “People of all ages and medical histories should consider themselves potential donors,” added Andersen. Cheyenne Regional is encouraging community members to become organ and tissue donors through the Workplace Partnership for Life (WPFL) program. Register by visiting the Wyoming online donor registry at www.WyomingDonorRegistry.org. More information about organ and tissue donation and the campaign is available by contacting Andersen at 633-3717 or Bradley at 633-7586. Information is also available on the Donor Alliance website at www.donoralliance.org. Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is a 218-bed premier regional healthcare system that prides itself on delivering the highest standard of quality care to meet the region’s growing healthcare needs. The hospital’s physicians and employees, state-of-the-art facilities and advanced technologies ensure patients will receive exceptional care close to home. -Cheyenne Regional- |
