Two Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Nurses Honored with Awards

CHEYENNE – Two nurses from Cheyenne Regional Medical Center have been presented with statewide awards for their nursing leadership and management skills.

Kathy Niles, RN, BSN, MBA, was recently presented with the March of Dimes (Wyoming Chapter) Nurse of the Year/Nursing Management Award for 2006. Niles is Administrative Director of Outpatient Services at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. Mary Kay Goetter, RN, MSN, Nursing Practice Director, was presented with the Leadership in Nursing Award from the Wyoming Nurses Association State Convention.

Niles was given her award during the March of Dimes Statewide Excellence in Nursing Award Banquet in Casper. She was selected by a panel of judges that included physicians and nurses from across Wyoming.

“The March of Dimes takes pride in recognizing the outstanding efforts of Wyoming nurses, who are devoted to improving the health and care of others,” said Dawn Stalker, an administrator with the March of Dimes, Wyoming Chapter. The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

Nurses from across Wyoming were nominated for March of Dimes awards in 17 categories.

Outside the hospital, Niles serves the community and her profession as a board member of the Wyoming Nurses Association and as a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, International Nursing Honor Society (Sigma Theta Tau) and Honor Society Phi Kappa Phi. Recently Niles became a member of the board of directors for Cheyenne Community Clinic, which provides primary healthcare for low-income, uninsured or other underserved people of Laramie County regardless of their ability to pay.

Goetter was recognized for her nursing leadership and promotion of evidence-based practices at Cheyenne Regional. In addition to her work, Goetter is pursing a PhD in nursing. She is active in Sigma Theta Tau and the American Nurses Association and is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Council for Advancement of Nursing Science. Goetter is a Major in the Air Force National Guard, where she serves as Chief Nurse Executive. Goetter is also a member of the Air National Guard Officers’ Association, Association of Air National Guard Nurses and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and volunteers as a cowboy medic with the F.E. Warren military medicine team to provide on-site emergency medical care to injured cowboys during the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo.
