Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Increases its Rankings, Ensures Heart Patients Receive Timely Care

CHEYENNE – The latest data from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) shows the Heart Center at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is making great strides to improve outcomes by decreasing the amount of time it takes to open a blocked artery and resume blood flow to the heart. In 80 percent of the cases, acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients coming in from the emergency department have an open artery in under 90 minutes.

“Cheyenne Regional’s Heart Center ranks in the top 8 percent of hospitals nationwide that provide this type of treatment for AMI’s.” said Timothy M. Gardner, M.D., FACC, Medical Director of The Heart Center. “AMI remains the number one killer in our nation and The Heart Center continues to provide premier care for our regional patients.”

Cheyenne Regional is dedicated to meeting the highest standards of quality for our patients and continually improving outcomes, satisfaction and, ultimately, quality of life. In November 2006, Cheyenne Regional was ranked in the top 11 percent of hospitals. Cheyenne Regional’s Heart Center complies with the American Heart Association’s latest project to give faster emergency room care to patients with major heart conditions and has instituted the following protocols -- some as early as 2000 -- to ensure the highest standards of care for our patients:

o Emergency personnel conduct EKG’s in transit to the emergency department
o Cheyenne Regional’s Cardiac Alert Protocol was developed to automatically alert key team members including a cardiologist and cath lab staff
o Cheyenne Regional conducts simultaneous pages to summon appropriate staff
o Cheyenne Regional ensures an immediate response to a cardiac event in less than 20 minutes
o Cheyenne Regional conducts two methods of quality tracking to conduct performance reviews including participation in the American College of Cardiology National Cardiac Data Registry (ACC/NCDR) and the tracking of core measures

The Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Heart Center provides our patients with exceptional healthcare, from prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. Our passionate healthcare experts, including cardiologists, cardio-thoracic surgeons, and a team of cath lab, diagnostic testing, cardio-pulmonary and emergency department staff offer confidence and kindness while utilizing the latest technology to aid in the healing process.

The Heart Center was the first in the region to offer its patients drug-eluting stents, real-time, three-dimensional ultrasonic images of the heart via echocardiography and the Transmyocardial Revascularization Laser (TMR). Money Magazine also rated the Heart Center as one of the top 25 hospitals in the nation for heart valve replacement surgery.

Cheyenne Regional is a 218-bed premier regional healthcare system that prides itself on delivering extraordinary patient care for the region. We meet the highest standards of quality for our patients and we extend our capabilities with advanced procedures and leading technologies to help in the healing process. We offer excellent care in a range of specialties and subspecialties including lifestyle management, neuroscience, orthopedics, oncology, cardiology and trauma.
