(Cheyenne Regional Medical Center’s Obstetric Nursing Unit)
Fathers, or significant others, may visit anytime. From 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., visiting is welcomed for grandparents and brothers and sisters of the new baby. Extended family and friends are welcome 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. No children, other than siblings, under age 14.

We encourage fathers or significant others to come into the birthing rooms and be a part of a family centered experience during delivery. A waiting room is available on the unit for family members of maternity and nursery patients when not visiting in their rooms. After delivery, siblings of the baby, the father and grandparents may visit the mother in the birthing room.

The new baby can meet all of the family and friends in the mother's room. To reduce the risk of infection, we ask that everyone in the family wash their hands before holding the baby. Mothers are encouraged to keep their babies in the hospital room as much as they like.

Diaper pin graphic Special Care Nursery:
CRMC encourages parents to visit with their baby as much as possible throughout his or her stay in the special care nursery. Guidelines exist for the safety and healthy development of all infant’s in the nursery. Guidelines also exist to ensure infection control and preserve patient confidentiality. Cheyenne Regional Medical Center identifies family oriented care as necessary in the healing process of a newborn and, when available, will provide a boarding room to the parents for their infant’s stay.

Responsible persons: All Women’s and Children’s Unit Personnel

Special Care Nursery Visitation
  1. Two bands will be given to parents or support systems of the mother’s choice. The infant will be banded with corresponding bands.
  2. Visitors will be asked to leave unless they are accompanied by a banded person.
  3. Only 2 persons are allowed at the infant’s bedside, one of those people must be a banded person.
  4. All visitors will be asked to wash their hands upon admission to the nursery and must be free of coughs, colds, or other contagious illnesses.
  5. Friends and relatives under 14 are not allowed to visit. Siblings are invited to visit and must be accompanied by a parent. If the child becomes disruptive to the well being of the other infant’s in the nursery, they will be asked to leave. A health screening will be signed before allowing siblings into the nursery.
  6. Parents of the infant will be asked to fill out a visitation consent form upon admission to Special Care Nursery.
  7. An identification number (as identified by the band number on the newborn admit sheet) will be required to obtain information over the phone on an infant.
  8. Visitation is not permitted during report times (0630-0730 and 1830-1930)
  9. Nursery visitation may be suspended or limited at any time at the discretion of the nursery staff.
  10. The parent(s) of infants that are here for a prolonged length of stay in the Special Care Nursery will be given one additional band. The baby will be banded with this corresponding band as well. The additional person must follow all other guidelines.
  11. If multiple infants are co-bedding, only two visitors are allowed at the bedside, NOT two visitors per baby.

Boarding Status
  1. Parents will be offered a boarding room to stay in when the infant is admitted to the Special Care Nursery for a prolonged period of time. If the room is needed for patients being admitted to the hospital, the patient will receive priority.
  2. Meals will be provided by the hospital for one person. Meals will be sent up from the cafeteria and will be the standard daily meal.
  3. CRMC will not be responsible for the boarder’s medications, supplies, or valuables.

Diaper pin graphicPediatrics:
Parents or significant others are welcome to visit any time. We encourage one parent to stay overnight with their child. Siblings may visit for 30-minute periods only, and must remain under the supervision of an adult family member. Other visitors are welcome 11:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.

For their own safety, children under 12 years are not permitted to visit pediatric isolation patients. The number of visitors in isolation rooms will be restricted. Children placed in isolation need to remain in their rooms. Parents are discouraged from visiting other patient's rooms to prevent spread of infection.
